And then we played...Writing WorkshopIn writing workshop, students are writing daily. They just published and shared their personal narratives about a time they played. And now, students are collecting ideas for a fictional story about their arcade games. The stories will be about when their games "come alive." Each child will be able to let their creative mind run wild. We will follow the writing process, set forth below. We are collecting ideas now, and then we will choose one we like. We will spend 2-3 days rehearsing or planning that idea, and then write a draft. After drafting, we will revise it based on 2nd grade standards.
SLC's!What a week. Each student completed his or her student led conference this week. It was such a pleasure to watch each student take charge and share their learning, while loving parents and other family members showed their support by listening and asking questions. Thank you all for your ongoing support. And we will return in the Spring to see our young students' amazing growth. Please remember that you can always check in with your student's teacher via email or just by dropping by the classroom.
Play TestWe invited our Kindergarten buddies to play test our game prototypes. Watching them play our games provided excellent data to improve our games. Next week we can begin building our full sized games!
Our field work to Chuck E. Cheese's was successful. We received invaluable critique from the technicians. Thank you Marlon and Manuel, and thank you Chuck E. Cheese's in Vista! Finally, thank you to our volunteer drivers and chaperones, who worked hard to support our learners as they completed research, tested games and asked for feedback from the technicians. Our second graders returned to school with field notes that they used to improve their prototypes. On Monday, our kindergarten buddies will visit and test our prototypes. This will be the first time that they learn about our arcade games and get to see them. The second graders will observe, take more notes and make a final prototype. Then we will be able to start creating our regular size games for the arcade. Building in the classroomOur SCRUM boards are setup and ready. And students are working together to create and revise their prototypes. We started the week with a visit from my daughter, who shared a cardboard arcade game that she built at home. She shared how she made it, and how to play.
Then we all played and had some fun. |
